The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was founded in 1901 and is now part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NIST is one of the nation’s oldest physical science laboratories. Congress established the agency to remove a major challenge to U.S. industrial competitiveness at the time—a second-rate measurement infrastructure that lagged behind the capabilities of the United Kingdom, Germany, and other economic rivals.

A primary goal of NIST is to promote innovative capabilities. At KOTEM, we’re aligned with that goal, particularly in the area of metrology. NIST’s annual MBE Summit focuses on latest developments in model-based enterprise, where a digital three-dimensional (3D) model of the product serves as the authoritative information source for all activities in a product’s lifecycle. Summit attendees will learn about the challenges, research, implementation issues, and lessons learned relative to MBE.

The theme of the 2018 MBE Summit is Empowering the Digital Transformation with an Integrated Lifecycle. The model-based community has moved beyond the question of “why is MBE important” to “how do we deploy MBE?” This Summit (the ninth of the series) is focused on empowering the industrial shift to MBE with recommended practices and how-to guidance.
